Climatic Control FeaturesSouth AmericaThe South Pacific High
The blocking ridge keeps most polar systems from Central Chile…instead focusing the polar energy over Srn Chile (Archipielago de los Chonos-Tierra del Fuego)
Surface flow between 10S-30S is S-SW
South of 30S, the flow is N-NW in Winter and SSW in Summer.
Notes:
Polar fronts are generally deflected southward under the South Pacific High. At upper levels the trough manages to slide over this high as the mid-upper level ridge crumbles. However, the surface reflection of the polar front is quite limited.
