Tropical Wave (Cross)Winds/Relative Vorticity
Notes:
Vertical cross section of the winds (barbs/KT) and the relative vorticity of the wind (cyclonic red and anticyclonic blue).
In order to further determine the warm core characteristics of this trough, we plotted the winds and the relative vorticity. Warm core systems have their maximum cyclonic vorticity/rotation at low levels. This is clearly evident on this example, where we find the maximum cyclonic rotation along 15N 49W and at 850 hPa. Immediately aloft, note how rapidly the cyclonic vorticity decreases with height, while anticyclonic vorticity increases on the upper atmosphere.
