steadily progress east through Sunday and Monday with an area of
low pressure to form along the front tonight and track along the
Gulf Coast into the western Atlantic by Sunday afternoon. Heavy
rain is expected near and north of the low track from eastern
Texas through the Gulf Coast states where 3 to 6 inches of
rainfall with locally higher amounts will be possible from eastern
Texas into portions of the lower Mississippi Valley. Snow and
freezing rain are forecast to develop along the northern and
western fringes of the precipitation shield tonight over New
Mexico into West Texas, Oklahoma and northern Arkansas. Up to four
inches of snow along with light freezing rain accumulations are
expected for these locations with additional light snow/ice
accumulations extending eastward through the Tennessee Valley from
Saturday into Sunday. As the storm organizes near the coast of the
southeastern U.S early on Sunday, significant snowfall of over a
foot is expected to affect portions of western North Carolina into
southwest Virginia along with freezing rain affecting the Piedmont
into sections of the Coastal Plain.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
