Storm Summary Number 4 for Northwestern U.S. Winter Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
200 PM MST Mon Jan 15 2024
...Lingering snow over Colorado continues to wane this afternoon
as the winter storm comes to an end...
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect
for Colorado into southern Wyoming.
Avalanche Warnings are in effect for far southeastern Idaho into
western Wyoming, portions of Utah and western Colorado.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 100 PM MST...A front demarcating the southern edge of a polar
air mass remained nearly stationary across southern Oregon, the
Great Basin, and through the central Rockies, separating arctic
air over the Great Plains from relatively mild air to its south
and west. The low pressure system responsible for the recent
winter storm had dissipated over land, but an upper level
disturbance was over the central Rockies and adjacent High Plains,
translating southeastward. National Weather Service Doppler Radar
showed scattered areas of snow over far southeastern Wyoming into
central and eastern Colorado, but with decreasing coverage and
intensity.

As the main energy associated with an upper-level trough moves
southeastward into the central Plains, snowfall currently
occurring over the central Rockies will gradually lose intensity
tonight and into Tuesday. The upper trough will continue to
interact with an arctic front near the Gulf Coast and across the
Southeast, where the next round of wintry weather is forecast to
impact locations from the lower Mississippi Valley, across the
Tennessee Valley into the Mid-Atlantic states through Tuesday
morning.
This will be the last Storm Summary issued by the Weather
Prediction Center for this event. Please refer to your local
National Weather service office for additional information.
