Tropical Depression Christine - September
2-6, 1973
Christine moved offshore Africa as a tropical depression on August 25th. Slowly strengtening,
the system became a tropical storm by the 28th. Its quick westward movement slowed at the
end of the month. Christine reached its peak intensity on the 2nd while approaching the Leeward
Islands. Strong vertical wind shear led to weakening thereafter. By the 3rd, the cyclone was
barely of tropical storm strength when it moved into Antigua. Its forward motion sped up on the
4th, and Christine weakened into a tropical wave soon after. The storm total rainfall maps below
were constructed using data from the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
