Hurricane Cindy - July 5-12,
1959
A small tropical cyclone, Cindy formed offshore South Carolina,
becoming a tropical storm on July 7th.
After moving northeast on previous days, Cindy turned to the west due
to a developing surface high to
its north. The system moved inland near Charleston, recurving
along the fall line and exiting the coast
near Norfolk, Virginia. Heavy rains fell near and left of its
track, relieving dry conditions across the region.
The graphics below show the storm total rainfall for Cindy, using data
from the National Climatic Data
Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
