Tropical Storm Ileana - August 11-15, 2000
The tropical wave that moved off the coast of Africa on August1 moved
westward without any development
through the 9th as it marched through the tropical Atlantic and
Caribbean sea. An area of thunderstorms
energed into the Pacific on the 12th, with a low level center forming
100 miles south of Manzanillo on the
13th. A tropical depression formed that day, which became a
tropical storm on the 14th. Tracking parallel
to the Mexican coast, the system peaked on the 15th before taking a
more westward track. Vertical wind
shear and cooler water temperatures took their toll, and the system
went out to sea southwest of Baja
California and eventually dissipated. Below is its track,
supplied by the National
Hurricane Center.

The
graphics below show the storm total rainfall for Ileana, which used
information from the Comision del
Agua, the parent agency of Mexico's National Weather Service.
