Tropical Depression #2 - July 1-8,
1999
A tropical wave moved westward off the west coast of Africa on June
20th. The system moved westward for the next
10 days before a low level cyclonic circulation formed with the
tropical disturbance. It then moved across the Yucatan
peninsula into the Bay of Campeche, where it developed into a tropical
depression by July 2nd. The cyclone moved
west-northwest into mainland Mexico about 35 miles south-southeast of
Tuxpan. While the surface circulation weakened
over the mountains of eastern Mexico, its cloud pattern retained its
identity moving into the Gulf of California. It then
turned northwest, with its convection dissipating as it crossed through
central Baja California. Below are graphics
showing the rainfall from this system, with data supplied by the
Comision Nacional del Agua, parent agency of Mexico's
National Weather Service.
