Unnamed Tropical Storm - August 15-18,
A tropical disturbance originating from African developed northeast of
the Bahamas into a
tropical depression, strengthening into a tropical storm as it headed
across eastern North Carolina.
The system presented the general appearance of a tropical cyclone on
satellite imagery during a
portion of its existence, but data available in real-time was not
considered conclusive enough to
justify its classification as a tropical storm that year. It was
officially added to the tropical cyclone
database in 1972. The graphics below show the storm total
rainfall for the unnamed tropical storm.
