THERE ARE WINTER STORM WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES IN EFFECT FOR PARTS
OF THE SIERRAS IN CALIFORNIA.

AT 600 PM PST...A STRONG UPPER-LEVEL VORTEX WITH AFFILIATED
SURFACE LOW WAS LOCATED OVER THE NORTHEAST PACIFIC. THE ASSOCIATED
SURFACE FRONTAL STRUCTURE CONTINUED TO HUG THE WEST COAST. 
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADARS AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS
INDICATED SOME MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN FALLING THROUGHOUT THE
NORTHERN HALF OF CALIFORNIA AS WELL AS PARTS OF SOUTHWESTERN
OREGON.  ADDITIONAL WIDESPREAD MODERATE PRECIPITATION WAS ALSO
FALLING IN PORTIONS OF NORTHERN OREGON AND WASHINGTON.  THE
MAJORITY OF THE PRECIPITATION IS FALLING IN THE FORM OF RAIN.
HOWEVER... IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE CASCADE AND SIERRA
MOUNTAINS THE PRECIPITATION WAS FALLING AS SNOW.

THE MODERATE TO HEAVY PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR
MUCH OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA THROUGH AT
LEAST SUNDAY.  SOME AREAS COULD RECEIVE UPWARDS OF 10 TO 12 INCHES
OF RAIN WITH THIS EVENT. IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE CASCADES
AND SIERRA MOUNTAINS... SNOW TOTALS IN EXCESS OF 8 INCHES ARE
POSSIBLE.  ADDITIONALLY... GUSTY WINDS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE
ENTIRE REGION GIVEN THE STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN THE HIGH
PRESSURE OVER THE ROCKIES AND THIS SYSTEM.
