COLD FRONT EXTENDED SOUTHWARD FROM THE SURFACE LOW ALONG THE
EASTERN U.S. COASTAL PLAIN AND ACROSS THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE. A
WARM FRONT EXTENDED NORTHEASTWARD FROM THE SURFACE LOW ACROSS
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND AND INTO THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE RADARS AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATED WIDESPREAD
PRECIPITATION FALLING ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN U.S. FROM WESTERN
NEW YORK STATE NORTHEASTWARD INTO NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND...LIGHT TO
MODERATE SNOW WAS FALLING. SOME AREAS OF HEAVY SNOW WERE
REPORTED...PRIMARILY IN NORTHERN MAINE. FARTHER SOUTH...CLOSER TO
THE FRONTAL SYSTEM...A RELATIVELY SHALLOW COLD AIR LAYER NEAR THE
SURFACE WAS RESULTING IN A MIXTURE OF RAIN...SLEET...AND FREEZING

SCOTIA...CANADA THURSDAY MORNING. HEAVY SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS WILL
CONTINUE ACROSS THE NORTHEAST INTO THURSDAY MORNING BEFORE
TAPERING OFF DURING THE AFTERNOON. SNOW WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE
TONIGHT ACROSS THE APPALACHIANS AS COLDER AIR MOVES INTO THE
REGION. ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 6 INCHES OR MORE ARE LIKELY
ACROSS MUCH OF THE NORTHEASTERN U.S...WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS OF
10 TO 20 INCHES POSSIBLE ACROSS NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND. STRONG GUSTY
WINDS AS HIGH AS 40 TO 50 MPH...THE RESULT OF AN INTENSE PRESSURE
GRADIENT AROUND THE SURFACE LOW...MAY RESULT IN BLIZZARD OR
NEAR-BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OVERNIGHT FOR SOME AREAS OF THE
NORTHEAST. ALONG THE COAST...THE INTRUSION OF SOME WARMER AIR
ALOFT MAY RESULT IN FREEZING RAIN ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF A TENTH TO
A QUARTER INCH...PRIMARILY ACROSS COASTAL MAINE.
