UTAH...COLORADO...AND NEW MEXICO. LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW AND SOME
FREEZING RAIN WILL OCCUR AS FAR WEST AS CALIFORNIA AND AS FAR EAST
AS TEXAS...
WINTER STORM WARNINGS WERE IN EFFECT FOR MUCH OF COLORADO AND
SOUTHERN UTAH. WINTER STORM WARNINGS EXTENDED AS FAR WEST AS SOME
MOUNTAIN RANGES IN SOUTHERN NEVADA...AND AS FAR EAST AS OKLAHOMA
AND TEXAS.
WINTER STORM WATCHES WERE IN EFFECT FOR NORTHEAST TEXAS AND
ADJACENT PARTS OF OKLAHOMA...ARKANSAS...AND LOUISIANA.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES WERE IN EFFECT FROM THE MOUNTAINS OF
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS...JUST OUTSIDE OF THE
AREAS COVERED BY WINTER STORM WARNINGS.
HIGH WIND WARNINGS WERE IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN UTAH.

AT 200 AM MST...A SURFACE LOW WITH MINIMUM PRESSURE OF 1003
MILLIBARS OR 29.62 INCHES OF MERCURY WAS CENTERED NEAR KINGMAN IN
NORTHWEST ARIZONA. AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT EXTENDED FROM SOUTHEAST
KANSAS TO NORTHERN NEW MEXICO...AND VERY COLD AIR WAS PUSHING INTO
THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND SOUTHWEST U.S. NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
RADAR AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS REVEALED WIDESPREAD SNOW TO THE
NORTH OF THE SURFACE LOW...AFFECTING SOUTHERN UTAH...AND NORTH OF
THE ARCTIC FRONT...AFFECTING MUCH OF COLORADO AND SOUTHWEST KANSAS
AS WELL AS ADJACENT PARTS OF OKLAHOMA AND NEW MEXICO. SOME OF THE
SNOW WAS HEAVY.

TODAY ARCTIC AIR WILL STRENGTHEN OVER THE PLAINS AND FOUR CORNERS
REGION AS A HIGH PRESSURE CENTER DROPS FROM MONTANA TO EASTERN
NEBRASKA. AT THE SAME TIME...A LARGE UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL FORM
OVER CALIFORNIA AND NEVADA. TEMPERATURES WELL BELOW AVERAGE FOR
LATE FEBRUARY WILL COMBINE WITH THE UPPER LEVEL STORM TO PRODUCE
WIDESPREAD HEAVY SNOW. ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 FEET ARE EXPECTED
IN THE MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHERN UTAH...SOUTHERN COLORADO...AND
NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. GREATER THAN 2 FEET OF SNOW IS LIKELY IN THE
HIGH ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHERN COLORADO. HEAVY ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 TO
12 INCHES ARE FORECAST IN THE MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA...AND ALSO IN THE HIGH PLAINS EXTENDING FROM EASTERN
COLORADO INTO SOUTHWEST KANSAS AND THE OKLAHOMA AND TEXAS
PANHANDLES. MEANWHILE...UP TO A HALF INCH OF FREEZING RAIN AND
SLEET MAY ACCUMULATE OVER NORTH TEXAS. MUCH OF THE PRECIPITATION
WILL FALL TODAY AND MONDAY...AND THEN DECREASE IN COVERAGE AND
INTENSITY MONDAY NIGHT.
