Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 334 AM EDT Wed Aug 05 2020 Valid 00Z Thu Aug 06 2020 - 00Z Thu Aug 13 2020 Models/ensembles maintain good agreement and continuity for the overall forecast during the period. Moderate to brisk trades that will support windward/mountain shower focus (though with some showers straying leeward at times) should be strongest during the weekend as high pressure initially north of the state strengthens while it adjusts a bit eastward. Then the pressure gradient should relax gradually next Monday-Wednesday in response to the high weakening somewhat as it drifts back to the west. An upper level weakness and an area of precipitable water values around or above 1.50 inches passing through during the latter half of the week should increase rainfall over some areas. Guidance continues to show a return to drier conditions between the weekend and next Wednesday. This trend could be offset a bit by a broadening area of lower heights aloft over the region after Monday. Also the Big Island may be close to the northern periphery of an area of moisture passing by to the south during a portion of the Monday-Wednesday time frame. Rausch
