Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 358 AM EDT Mon May 30 2022 Valid 00Z Tue May 31 2022 - 00Z Tue Jun 07 2022 Hawaii's weather looks to remain relatively dry and quiet through this week into early next week, as an upper trough near the western islands gives way to an upper high currently centered east of the state that will gradually drift westward atop the state this week. At the surface, a ridge of high pressure near the state is causing weakened trade winds and allowing for a nighttime land breeze/afternoon sea breeze pattern to set up. Isolated showers are possible over interior and leeward areas in this pattern, but should be few and far between given normal to below normal moisture levels. While the surface high pressure ridge drifts north over the next few days and causes moderate trades to redevelop, moisture should remain below normal with the ridging aloft. Thus windward and mountain showers from the trades should stay modest. By next weekend, some older model guidance was showing potential for increased moisture, but more recent runs have kept this moisture axis north of Hawaii for a continued dry pattern over the state. Trades may weaken somewhat by next weekend. Tate
