Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 AM EDT Fri Jun 10 2022 Valid 00Z Sat Jun 11 2022 - 00Z Sat Jun 18 2022 Expect trades to increase from late this week into the weekend as eastern Pacific high pressure strengthens slightly while it retrogrades along 30N latitude, reaching a position north of the state by early Monday. Then an approaching central Pacific high will take over, supporting continuation of moderate to brisk trades into late next week. Windward-focused showers will tend to be of light to moderate intensity with precipitable water values holding below climatology through early next week. Periodic enhancement will be possible as upper level impulses track from east to west beneath upper ridging. Guidance shows a couple of such impulses late this week and during the weekend, followed by a stronger one around Wednesday-Thursday. An area of greater deep moisture, originally associated with a front to the north/northeast of the state, may cross the region with this latter impulse. There is still spread among the models/means for the details of the upper impulse and magnitude of moisture increase but there is general agreement that the greatest moisture should cross the northwestern islands.
