Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 301 AM EDT Sat Jul 09 2022 Valid 00Z Sun Jul 10 2022 - 00Z Sun Jul 17 2022 Models and ensembles still reasonably agree that strong high pressure bridging to the north of the state will build brisk island trades over the next week in a pattern favoring periods of mainly windward/mountain showers. Meanwhile, some periods of slightly above average moisture are possible especially over the Big Island through late week into the weekend, which may lead to some increased shower coverage especially over windward and mauka areas. Then drier and sunnier conditions are forecast to return to the state early next week, but model guidance has been persistently showing the potential for moisture from what is currently Hurricane Bonnie could pass over Hawaii into mid-later next week. Though Bonnie is forecast to dissipate before then, the remnant moisture could lead to increased rainfall chances for Hawaii. Schichtel
