Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 401 AM EDT Tue Aug 02 2022 Valid 00Z Wed Aug 03 2022 - 00Z Wed Aug 10 2022 A large upper ridge and expansive surface high will tend to meander across the central Pacific through much of this week, with the strongest pressure gradient and surface winds likely staying north of the Islands. Meanwhile, an upper low approaching from the east should reach the Big Island by late Wednesday and then lift northward. Upper level ridging builds back in by the weekend. Trade winds are expected to decrease some going into mid-week as the dominance from the central Pacific high lifts farther to the north. In terms of rainfall, typically trade enhanced showers will be the norm through about early Wednesday, with perhaps greater coverage of showers for the end of the week through early next week from Oahu to the Big Island as the upper low passes overhead.
