Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 341 AM EDT Fri Aug 05 2022 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 06 2022 - 00Z Sat Aug 13 2022 Through at least the next day or so, weak trade winds are expected over Hawaii with a surface trough in the vicinity and a weak upper level trough to the north. This will allow for land and sea breezes to dominate over the islands and clouds and showers to follow that pattern. Trade winds are forecast to gradually strengthen through the weekend and into early next week as the upper trough moves away and the typical Pacific surface high well north-northeast of the state takes hold again. Thus some windward and mauka showers with drier leeward areas should become more common. Some increases in moisture and thus possibly shower coverage over the islands are possible next week, with a moisture surge indicated around Monday-Tuesday by model guidance, with the GFS most aggressive. After that, enhanced moisture with a potential tropical system around mid-late next week is currently expected to stay south of Hawaii. Tate
