Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 342 AM EDT Sun Aug 07 2022 Valid 00Z Mon Aug 08 2022 - 00Z Mon Aug 15 2022 Trade winds are forecast to gradually strengthen early this week across Hawaii, as the pressure gradient strengthens a bit as the typical Pacific surface high well north-northeast of the state takes hold again. Thus a somewhat hybrid pattern of land/sea breezes and light-moderate trades is forecast over the next day or so, while cloudiness and showers decrease from the western islands as moisture moves out. A typical trade wind pattern with windward and mauka showers and drier leeward areas starts to take hold Monday and beyond, with generally average to below average moisture expected through midweek aside from possibly a brief period of increased moisture around Monday. After that, there is some chance that enhanced moisture with a potential tropical system around mid-late next week could make its way into Hawaii. At least the highest moisture anomalies are likely to stay south, but the possibility that some could stream into the state will continue to be monitored. The strength of the trade winds will also depend on the pressure gradient that will be affected by the possible tropical development--so, trades are likely to strengthen given lowering pressure to the south. By next weekend, another possible tropical system could bring another, potentially better chance of increased moisture coming into Hawaii, but with ample uncertainty at this point. Tate
