Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 341 AM EDT Sun Aug 28 2022 Valid 00Z Mon Aug 29 2022 - 00Z Mon Sep 05 2022 A compact upper low will pass across the Islands today, moving well west of the region into early next week. Ridging aloft in its wake will lessen the trade winds for the next few days, but by later in the week, high pressure building in from the north will help reassert the stronger trade wind flow, favoring mainly overnight to early morning windward precipitation chances. Toward the end of the period, there are trends toward a surface trough passing south of the Islands, this may help push higher moisture toward the region and bring enhanced precipitation chances. There are some timing differences seen in the latest model guidance, with the GFS being a bit on the faster side showing this feature moving through compared to the other guidance. Taylor
