Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 335 AM EDT Thu Sep 01 2022 Valid 00Z Fri Sep 02 2022 - 00Z Fri Sep 09 2022 The latest model guidance shows relatively good agreement from the synoptic level over the region over the next week with the main synoptic feature being an upper ridge persisting over the Islands through the rest of this week. This combined with drier air will help limit the scope of the shower activity, primarily favoring the typical windward and mountain locations during the overnight and early morning hours. The lighter trade winds will also support more typical sea/land breeze interactions and shower activity. Going into this weekend and next week, some indication that trade wind regime should pick up to moderate levels, supporting the more typical trade wind pattern. A passing shortwave south of the region this weekend is likely to bring higher moisture for enhanced precipitation in both coverage and intensity Saturday through Monday. Beyond that, the upper low will move west of the region with a drier airmass filtering back in, bringing back the more typical trade wind flow and shower coverage. Taylor
