Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 343 AM EDT Mon Sep 12 2022 Valid 00Z Tue Sep 13 2022 - 00Z Tue Sep 20 2022 Trade winds are forecast to be around moderate levels across Hawaii for much of the week, causing potential for showers to be focused mainly over windward/mountain areas. Shower and cloud coverage may be enhanced at times over the next few days as somewhat above normal moisture is likely to arrive later Monday into Tuesday on the northern end of a tropical moisture surge, lasting through Wednesday or Thursday. General troughing aloft particularly over the western islands like Kauai should lift inversion heights and promote rainfall potential there. Some instability may also be in place, which could lead to a few thunderstorms. Later in the week around Thursday/Friday, a slight decrease in trades may occur leading to a hybrid trades and land/sea breeze pattern, but likely in a relatively drier environment as moisture levels return closer to normal. Moderate trades currently look likely for the weekend, and the possibility for another moisture surge early next week will continue to be monitored. Tate
