Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 311 AM EDT Thu Sep 15 2022 Valid 00Z Fri Sep 16 2022 - 00Z Fri Sep 23 2022 Lighter trade winds are expected through the end of the week as a front dissipates into a trough north of the state and causes a weaker pressure gradient. This will allow for some land and sea breezes to form. Near normal to above normal moisture levels should prevail today, along with troughing aloft that would lift inversion heights. Thus some showers are possible following typical land/sea breeze patterns, namely over windward slopes and coasts at night and interior and leeward areas during the afternoon, with perhaps even isolated thunderstorms for the Big Island. By early next week, trades are expected to strengthen again to around moderate levels. Additionally, model guidance shows moisture could increase around Sunday and increase coverage of clouds and showers as this moisture plume travels east to west across the state. After that, drier trades are expected as an upper high/ridge could sneak atop Hawaii and suppress moisture availability. Tate
