Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 336 AM EDT Fri Sep 23 2022 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 24 2022 - 00Z Sat Oct 01 2022 Today's guidance agrees fairly well for the overall pattern evolution through late next week. Expect flow around the southwest periphery of eastern Pacific high pressure to support southeasterly low level winds on average from late this week into the weekend, with some land/sea breezes possible at times. Precipitable water values will tend to be near to slightly above normal. An upper ridge building over/northwest of the main islands during the weekend may lead to a gradual decrease in rainfall from shower activity. Next week should see a return to more typical trades, but mostly on the light side as a front settles down to 25-30N latitude. Wind speeds may increase a bit by late in the week as the front weakens and high pressure tracks over the central Pacific. Models and ensemble means signal a decrease in precipitable water values relative to the weekend, with the driest air likely to be over the southeastern islands. Low-predictability small scale impulses could provide localized enhancement but otherwise expect most showers to be on the light side during next week. Rausch
