Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 334 AM EDT Sat Oct 8 2022 Valid 00Z Sun Oct 9 2022 - 00Z Sun Oct 16 2022 An anomalous closed low is expected to be quasi-stationary through about early Tuesday as it remains blocked by a ridge to its east and to its west. The trailing stationary front should be close enough to the state to generate some additional showers and storms for the central and northern Islands through early next week, with perhaps a more organized corridor of showers/storms by next Thursday across the northwestern Islands as the front gets closer to these areas. The ensemble means are suggesting another weaker closed upper low/trough that'll likely develop northwest of the state by next Wednesday/Thursday as the blocking ridge just off the West Coast of the U.S. remains anchored in place. In terms of trade winds, the general col in the surface high and the proximity of the front will tend to result in lighter winds than normal for most of the upcoming week and more of a southeasterly to even southerly component at times.
