Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 402 AM EDT Sun Oct 9 2022 Valid 00Z Mon Oct 10 2022 - 00Z Mon Oct 17 2022 The closed low north of Hawaii is expected to linger near 35 degrees north through about Monday night, and then becomes absorbed by a trough approaching from the west. The trailing stationary front should be close enough to the state to generate some additional showers and storms for the central and northern Islands through Tuesday, with perhaps a more organized corridor of showers/storms by Wednesday and Thursday across the northwestern Islands as the front gets closer to these areas. The ensemble means are suggesting another closed upper low/trough that is expected to develop northwest of the state by Thursday as the blocking ridge just off the West Coast of the U.S. remains anchored in place. In terms of trade winds, the general col in the surface high and the proximity of the front will tend to result in lighter winds than normal for most of the upcoming week and more of a southeasterly to even southerly component at times.
