Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 355 AM EDT Thu Oct 20 2022 Valid 00Z Fri Oct 21 2022 - 00Z Fri Oct 28 2022 A cold front has passed through the western islands of Hawaii and is likely to stall there around Molokai or Maui before lifting northward later in the day. Meanwhile, a mid-upper low to the north of the state is forecast to drift west-southwest over the next couple of days, lessening the typical inversion over the state and allowing for deeper vertical cloud development. These features will continue to produce showers especially over the western islands as the front, eventually forecast to weaken into a trough as the low pulls away, provides a focus for moisture over the next day or two. Breezy winds currently coming in behind the front are forecast to weaken as the front lifts away, with fairly weak winds allowing for land and sea breezes to form on Friday. A period of increased moisture is possible late Friday into Saturday as moisture is pulled north from the ITCZ, which could increase shower coverage in windward areas particularly for the Big Island, where moisture is most likely to reach. By this weekend and beyond, moderate to breezy trade wind flow should return as a Pacific surface high builds to the north by early next week. Thus more typical weather with some clouds and showers favoring windward/mauka areas is forecast into much of next week. Tate
