The guidance continues to agree that a fairly typical easterly
trade wind flow should continue through the next week over Hawaii,
with varying degrees in terms of wind speed. The strongest winds
should be today into Saturday, corresponding with peak strength of
high pressure to the northeast of the state. Winds may have a more
east-southeast component into the weekend as a cold front passes
well to the north, but should return to more easterly next week.
This generally would mean typical windward/mountain-focused
showers, with some locally heavy showers into the weekend
consistent with an area of higher moisture moving through. The
latest GFS/ECMWF runs show a drier regime setting up for next
week. Though there remain some typical uncertainties in the
details, the latest models and ensembles show good agreement on
the overall pattern over Hawaii through the next week.
