Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 327 AM EST Tue Nov 08 2022 Valid 00Z Wed Nov 09 2022 - 00Z Wed Nov 16 2022 Generally persistent high pressure north of Hawaii through much of this week will allow for a fairly typical easterly trade wind flow pattern with moderate to locally breezy speeds. This should support mainly windward/mountain-focused showers along the eastern facing terrain. An upper trough or cut-off closed low to the northeast of Hawaii later this week should cause trades to shift more northeasterly this weekend, and briefly back to the east by early next week. An approaching trough from the north however by mid next week could result in another north-northeasterly shift of the trades, with some increase in speed as well. The latest models and ensembles show very good agreement through much of the week on this overall pattern, with lingering uncertainties still on the approaching trough late in the period. The better consensus right now suggests it should stay far enough away with minimal to no impacts expected. Santorelli
