Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 204 AM EST Sat Nov 12 2022 Valid 00Z Sun Nov 13 2022 - 00Z Sun Nov 20 2022 A well defined break in the subtropical ridge is expected to persist in the general vicinity of 140W-150W through the middle of next week based on the latest model guidance. This is a result of both an inverted surface trough east of the Islands this weekend, and then a closed low develops in the mid-latitudes with a trailing front approaching the state. The core of the subtropical high should be centered northwest of the state through about Wednesday, and then the ridge axis builds back in north of the state by the end of the week. The orientation of the surface trough and the high location should generally result in northeasterly trade wind flow at least through Tuesday with some periods of ENE or easterly flow. The wind should generally veer more easterly by Wednesday and beyond for most areas as the col in the ridge breaks down. No areas of organized significant rainfall are currently expected for the upcoming week. Hamrick
