Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 220 AM EST Thu Nov 17 2022 Valid 00Z Fri Nov 18 2022 - 00Z Fri Nov 25 2022 The subtropical surface high is forecast to build back in to the north of Hawaii going into the upcoming weekend into early next week, and then the core of the high should be northeast of the state by Wednesday. The ensemble means are indicating a well defined col developing in the ridge by early next week over the far northwestern Islands, with the GEFS mean slightly to the east of the EC mean. A trailing cold front could reach the central Islands by midweek as the trough moves eastward. Trades should generally be out of the east-northeast on most days with a gradually increasing velocity of the winds going into the weekend as the pressure gradient gets stronger. There may be a surge of northeasterly winds for the northwestern Islands if the front passes through. In the precipitation department, there may be a slight increase in shower coverage from Maui to the Big Island for the Friday through Monday time period, and then again by Thanksgiving ahead of the cold front.
