Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 214 AM EST Thu Dec 22 2022 Valid 00Z Fri Dec 23 2022 - 00Z Fri Dec 30 2022 Going into the end of the week, the ensemble means are indicating another surface trough and cold front approaching the northwestern Islands, but this is not expected to be nearly as strong as the recent event with the main surface low remaining closer to 40 degrees north, and any rainfall from it confined to the far northwestern Islands. However, the boundary comes close enough to result in a period of southwesterly winds for the central and western Islands on Friday and into Saturday. The pattern north of the state remains active going into the weekend with a second trough (potentially a little stronger) passing by as a low pressure develops near 35 degrees north, but most of the rain with this should also remain north of the state. Meanwhile, a weak surface ridge axis will likely be in place across the state with generally light and variable winds most days. The Trades may get a little stronger going into early next week as the high builds. Hamrick
