Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 245 AM EST Wed Mar 1 2023 Valid 00Z Thu Mar 2 2023 - 00Z Thu Mar 9 2023 A big subtropical high, both at the surface and aloft, will remain near 35-40 degrees north through the remainder of the week. The strong pressure gradient in place will maintain windy conditions with flow from generally the east-northeast through Friday, with winds gusting 30-40 mph at times, along with very rough surf. The trades are forecast to abate going into the weekend as the influence of the high lifts north and an inverted trough and surface low forms east of the state, and this low will likely stay east of the Big Island. Even lighter winds are possible going into Monday with a col developing over the region. The potential for moderate to heavy showers across the windward terrain, particularly across the Big Island, will exist through much of the week with several inches of rainfall possible. This may be enough to cause some flooding concerns for flood-prone areas. Some improvement is likely going into Sunday and next Monday. Hamrick
