Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 256 AM EST Thu Mar 09 2023 Valid 00Z Fri Mar 10 2023 - 00Z Fri Mar 17 2023 A cold front progressed through most of the Hawaiian Islands on Wednesday and will push east of the Big Island by early Thursday. The front has brought in a drier airmass with few if any showers for the next couple of days. Additionally, lower dewpoints will be in place through late week, which will also allow minimum temperatures to fall below normal. The front has also caused some strong westerly winds, which are forecast to gradually decrease today into Friday, and remain on the weaker side into the weekend and early next week given a weak pressure gradient at the surface. A land/sea breeze pattern may set up over the weekend, with some interior showers as moisture levels return closer to normal. By Monday and beyond, a frontal boundary looks to set up north of Hawaii, drawing some southerly winds and more moisture into the state. There is uncertainty in the location of the front and its meandering. But by around midweek it appears possible it could sink south enough to focus moisture at least across the western islands for a wetter pattern, so this will continue to be monitored. Tate
