Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 337 AM EDT Mon Mar 27 2023 Valid 00Z Tue Mar 28 2023 - 00Z Tue Apr 4 2023 The weather pattern is forecast to be rather unsettled across the northwestern Islands for much of the upcoming week as a large synoptic scale upper trough will result in a couple of slow moving low pressure systems between 160 and 170 degrees west. The first low will continue lifting northeast and away from the state through Monday, and then a second low develops closer to 30 degrees north by Tuesday night that could be more impactful. This low will likely idle over the northwestern Islands through Friday before lifting north next weekend. Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are likely for much of next week for the Island of Kauai and points westward, and more scattered showers for the remainder of the state. With the col in the subtropical ridge centered near 165 degrees west, this will put the main Islands on the southwestern edge of the surface high that will provide mainly ESE to SE trades for much of the upcoming week, with the strongest low level flow over the Big Island.
