Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 AM EDT Fri Apr 07 2023 Valid 00Z Sat Apr 08 2023 - 00Z Sat Apr 15 2023 The pattern aloft is forecast to transition from an upper ridge Friday to more of a troughy pattern over the weekend. Meanwhile at the surface, high pressure to the north causing breezy trade winds may be disrupted a bit this weekend as a front approaches but likely remains north of Hawaii. Thus winds may decrease slightly into the weekend, but still serve to focus showers over favored windward areas, with a slight increase in instability possible given the troughing aloft. Increased clouds and a few downpours are possible, but the core of heaviest rainfall still looks to remain southwest of the state where the highest moisture anomalies are expected. Then through next week, another reasonably strong surface high looks to shift eastward well north of Hawaii (near 40N), providing for an increase in easterly trades to at least breezy levels likely around Monday and lasting through around Thursday. Showers mainly in windward areas can be expected, with a possible increase in coverage around Wednesday as there is potential for the moisture remnants of the former front to stretch across the state.
