Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 344 AM EDT Sat Apr 08 2023 Valid 00Z Sun Apr 09 2023 - 00Z Sun Apr 16 2023 An upper trough is forecast atop Hawaii over the weekend, providing a slight increase in instability for more clouds and possibly shower coverage. Meanwhile at the surface, the pressure gradient is likely to weaken a bit as a front approaches but likely remains north of Hawaii. This will allow for trade winds to decrease slightly as well, but still serve to focus showers over favored windward areas with a few downpours possible. The core of heaviest rainfall still looks to remain southwest of the state where the highest moisture anomalies are expected. For next week, another reasonably strong surface high looks to shift eastward well north of Hawaii (near 40N) and will provide for an increase in easterly trades to at least breezy levels likely around Monday and lasting through around Thursday. Showers mainly in windward areas can be expected, but some may make it to leeward areas given the strength of the winds. Trades are forecast to decrease some by late next week as the high shifts east and weakens. Tate
