Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 AM EDT Sun Apr 09 2023 Valid 00Z Mon Apr 10 2023 - 00Z Mon Apr 17 2023 A weaker pressure gradient will remain temporarily in place for Sunday due to a front north of the state, leading to lighter to moderate trade winds. These winds could still serve to focus showers over favored windward areas as a weak trough/low aloft provides a slight increase in instability for more clouds and possibly shower coverage. By Monday and through around Thursday, trades should strengthen to breezy levels as a reasonably strong surface high will come into place over the Pacific well north of Hawaii (near 40N). Showers mainly in windward areas can be expected, but some may make it to leeward areas given the strength of the winds. Trades are forecast to lessen some by late this week as the high shifts east and weakens. Available moisture and shower coverage are more uncertain but may decrease late week as an upper ridge builds just west of the state. Tate
