Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 AM EDT Sun Apr 30 2023 Valid 00Z Mon May 01 2023 - 00Z Mon May 08 2023 A favored composite blend of the model guidance has good ensemble support overall in a pattern with average to above average predictability. Next week will see a return to a pattern featuring moderate trades overall as high pressure bridges to the north then northeast of the state. Southeastward digging of an upper-level trough and surface front from the west-central Pacific mid-latitudes are forecast to occur to the west early in the forecast period, bringing a brief disruption to the pattern. Subsequent higher precipitation chances nearby look to drift eastward enough to bring showers to Kauai and Oahu Tuesday-Wednesday. Model trends will need to be monitored as some of the guidance shows the chance for heavier, more prolonged rainfall effecting more of the islands. The associated surface troughing/frontal boundary to the northwest are forecast to weaken/dissipate by late week with broad high pressure remaining in place to the north and moderate, breezy trades continuing over the islands.
