Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 315 AM EDT Fri Jun 9 2023 Valid 00Z Sat Jun 10 2023 - 00Z Sat Jun 17 2023 The subtropical high that is currently situated north of Hawaii near 35 degrees north is forecast to slowly drift to the northeast, and then become nearly anchored in place near 145 degrees west through the weekend and into early next week. The Islands will be on the southwestern periphery of this high through most of the forecast period with good agreement among the ensemble means, although the GEFS mean has the high centered a little closer to the state mid-late next week. This will also be co-located with a building upper level high in the same general region. In terms of sensible weather, low level trades should generally be out of the east with some occasional ENE or ESE component at times, with moderate flow velocities expected. Most of the terrain enhanced showers should be across the Big Island, and lighter QPF across the other Islands. No major surges of tropical moisture are expected over the next week. Hamrick
