Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 331 AM EDT Thu Jun 22 2023 Valid 00Z Fri Jun 23 2023 - 00Z Fri Jun 30 2023 Mid-upper ridging should continue to build across Hawaii for late week into the weekend, which will increase stability and lessen chances for too many showers. Meanwhile a Pacific surface high to the north is moving southwest closer to the state, tightening the pressure gradient and producing breezy easterly trades. These could perhaps strengthen further to windy levels by Friday and continuing through the weekend into early next week, given the high's position and especially in typical areas where terrain and islands can increase winds. The high pressure system may weaken slightly next week, but remain in place while another high comes in northwest of Hawaii. Thus trade winds should remain but may lessen somewhat to around moderate/locally breezy levels by Tuesday-Thursday. Aloft, a weak trough may replace the weekend ridge, allowing for a slightly more favorable pattern for showers though moisture does not look to increase. Any showers that do form should favor windward/mountain areas, but widespread rain is not expected. Tate
