Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 339 AM EDT Sat Jul 01 2023 Valid 00Z Sun Jul 02 2023 - 00Z Sun Jul 09 2023 Latest models and means continue to show similar ideas for the pattern through the end of next week. Trades of varying strength will prevail during the forecast period, focusing showers over windward/mountain areas, while below average precipitable water values will likely keep most rainfall totals on the lighter side. The combination of a weak wave passing through and a slight break in surface ridging north of the state should lead to moderate trades through the weekend. Then eastern Pacific high pressure will build southwestward and strengthen the trades somewhat early-mid week or so. The high should weaken a little by the end of the week, perhaps lowering wind speeds slightly. As for flow aloft, guidance is a little more agreeable now in showing a weakness over the islands this weekend into Monday bridging separate areas of lower heights to the west and east, followed by a northward shift of this weakness as ridging nudges in from the south. There is still some spread for specifics aloft by next Friday-Saturday though. Rausch
