Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 323 AM EDT Sat Jul 22 2023 Valid 00Z Sun Jul 23 2023 - 00Z Sun Jul 30 2023 Surface high pressure in place well to the northwest and northeast of Hawaii this weekend will likely combine into one high meandering around 40N latitude due north of the state next week. The influence of this high will lead to persistent and likely breezy easterly trades through the next week, with perhaps minor variations in speed from day to day. Without significant upper-level features influencing the pattern, typical trade wind weather can be expected, including some scattered windward/mauka showers that should not be very deep given the common inversion aloft. Shower coverage may be temporarily enhanced late Saturday into Sunday as slightly higher precipitable water values come into Hawaii, before a drier than normal airmass arrives next week. Heavy rainfall is not likely during the upcoming week. Looking ahead into next weekend, an upper trough axis may set up to the north of the state, and its influence on the sensible weather if that upper pattern plays out will continue to be monitored.
