High pressure bridged to the north of the islands has been
maintaining moderate to breezy easterly trades. Clouds and showers
in this pattern has favored windward and mauka areas, but was
limited within a pattern with generally below normal moisture.
Guidance generally agrees that upper trough amplification and slow
approach toward the state from the east should act to weaken that
portion of the high pressure ridge and associated island trades
over the next few days in a pattern with slowly returning moisture
and shower activity. Upper trough development to over the state
over the weekend should further pool moisture and destabilize,
with some potential for deeper tropical moisture into the state
from the southeast early next week. The gradual translation of the
main upper trough to the west of the state next week may also
allow renewed trade flow into the islands.
