Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 324 AM EDT Fri Aug 18 2023 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 19 2023 - 00Z Sat Aug 26 2023 The overall weather pattern across the Hawaii domain is expected to be relatively uneventful Friday through most of Sunday with mainly moderate trade winds from the ENE expected and windward showers across the southeastern Islands. By Sunday night, attention then turns to the approaching remnants of T.S. Fernanda, with the model guidance continuing to suggest the main trough axis will pass south of the Big Island Monday afternoon. However, the northern periphery will likely encompass locations from Oahu to the Big Island with PWs rising near to slightly above 2 inches, and heavy showers and a few thunderstorms, mainly on Monday into Monday night with the potential for several inches of rainfall that could result in some flooding issues. In the wake of this will be a return to more seasonal levels of atmospheric moisture and trade wind enhanced showers. Trades will return to a generally easterly direction by Tuesday and beyond at speeds of 10-20 mph in most cases with the main subtropical high remaining well north of the state near 40N/150W. Hamrick
