Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 AM EST Thu Nov 09 2023 Valid 00Z Fri Nov 10 2023 - 00Z Fri Nov 17 2023 A front northwest of Hawaii is forecast to weaken to a trough on Thursday, promoting moderate winds with a bit of a southerly component persisting through Thursday. This trough will track back west away from the state over the next couple of days, leading to winds gradually strengthening back to breezy levels and turning back to the more typical easterly direction through the latter part of the week, as a surface high builds north of the state. A slight increase in moisture could increase windward/mauka showers across the northwestern islands around Saturday. The anomalously strong high actually looks to sink south even closer to Hawaii by early next week and strengthen trades further. The high encroaching on the state could push a cold front across early in the workweek, with moisture pooling ahead of it possibly increasing showers especially for windward and mauka areas Monday-Tuesday. Strong winds could accompany the front shifting to a northeasterly direction, and drier dewpoints are expected behind the front for midweek and beyond. Tate
