Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 253 AM EST Sat Dec 09 2023 Valid 00Z Sun Dec 10 2023 - 00Z Sun Dec 17 2023 A frontal boundary has stalled to the north of the state and is forecast to die quickly, but has served to disrupt the typical trade wind pattern leading to a land and sea breeze pattern lasting through Saturday. But into early next week, trades look to increase again to around moderate levels with a relatively weak surface ridge poking in from the east, and then could strengthen further from the northeasterly direction by Tuesday-Wednesday as a surface high comes in from the northwest. The pattern may allow for some windward/mauka showers, especially as moisture could pool ahead of another cold front that should be north of Hawaii through midweek. The latest model guidance is reasonably agreeable that this front should push progressively southward through at least most of the state during the latter part of next week, though models certainly could diverge again in future cycles. Gusty northeasterly winds and lower dewpoints are forecast behind the front. Tate
