Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 AM EST Tue Dec 12 2023 Valid 00Z Wed Dec 13 2023 - 00Z Wed Dec 20 2023 On Tuesday, winds are expected to back a bit to a more northeasterly direction and strengthen ahead of a cold front approaching the state. Moisture is forecast to pool ahead of this front and bring some enhanced rain chances to the northwestern islands late on Tuesday. An anomalously deep trough aloft and a high pressure center at the surface will push this cold front across the state from northwest to southeast on Wednesday-Thursday, with shower chances pressing through ahead of it. Behind the front, drier dewpoints are forecast while northeasterly winds will be rather strong. Breezy northeasterly winds may continue into Friday before gradually decreasing in magnitude into the weekend while veering a bit to a more easterly direction. Windward and mauka showers are possible, though may be isolated given the below normal moisture in place. More typical trades and moisture levels are forecast to return early next week. Tate
