Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 250 AM EST Wed Dec 13 2023 Valid 00Z Thu Dec 14 2023 - 00Z Thu Dec 21 2023 A cold front currently near Kauai is forecast to move slowly through early Wednesday, and then an anomalously deep trough aloft and a high pressure center at the surface will push the front more progressively southeast across the state late Wednesday into Thursday. Moisture will continue to pool ahead of this front and bring some enhanced rain chances for Oahu Wednesday afternoon, Molokai/Maui Wednesday evening and night, and into the Big Island early Thursday, as shown by the HREF. Behind the front, drier dewpoints and slightly cooler temperatures are forecast while northeasterly winds will be rather strong. Windy northeasterlies may continue into Friday before winds gradually decrease in magnitude into the weekend (though remaining breezy) while veering a bit to a more easterly direction. Generally dry conditions are likely for late week given the below normal moisture in place behind the front. Moisture will gradually increase next week while easterly trades continue as a surface high traverses north of Hawaii, leading to windward/mauka showers. Tate
