Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 248 AM EST Sat Jan 13 2024 Valid 00Z Sun Jan 14 2024 - 00Z Sun Jan 21 2024 A dry and relatively cool post-frontal airmass is in place across Hawaii, with northwesterly winds behind the front and some showers in place due to instability underneath an upper low. Little to no precipitation is forecast for the rest of the weekend though as the upper low northeast of the state pulls farther away. Winds are forecast to weaken Saturday and be rather light Sunday with high pressure overhead. A front may stall to the north of the state around Monday, leading winds to shift to more southwesterly ahead of it. But then there is rather good model agreement for the medium range period for another cold front to come across Hawaii around Tuesday-Wednesday with rain expected along and ahead of the front. Gusty northwesterly winds may be possible again behind the front, before weakening under high pressure into late next week. Another axis of moisture ahead of yet another front may reach the northwestern islands by late week. Remarkably, over the next week, no days of typical easterly trades are expected, as the jet stream aloft meandering near/over the state displaces the trades well to the south. Tate
